Representative Sarah Vance's clueless, prejudiced un-Christian comments are no surprise. Rep. Maxine Dilbert and Bethel Representative McCormick responses to set the record straight did not make a dent in Ms Vance's misrepresentation of facts concerning the injustice harm done to Alaska Native women as evidenced by her ignorant apology.

Protection by the law and justice for Alaska Native women is really arbitrary and inadequate. I am thinking about the deaths of two Alaska Native women in Kotzebue that ADN and Pro-Publica reporter Kyle Hopkins has recently written about. Jennifer Kirk and Sue Sue Norton both found dead two years apart on the property of Kotzebue's former mayor. They were possibly murdered by the sons of the former Mayor. Kirk's death was said to be suicide. I am thinking of Nikki Taylor in Bethel whose death also determined by law enforcement to be suicide. These women all had marks of strangulation on their throats. All the men involved with these women have histories of drunken, domestic violence. Kathrin McCarthy

Thanks for reporting on this and thanks, too, for your clear editorial comments explaining the why “All Lives Matter” style rhetoric is so harmful. I hope it helps people understand the issue more clearly.
